The Role

What You'll Do

The Role

The Role
A part-time oversight role — not a full-time clinical position. You'll provide the clinical supervision, protocol development, and regulatory compliance oversight required to operate a medspa in Illinois. On-site presence is required periodically (monthly or as needed), with phone or electronic availability during operating hours for clinical questions or complications.
What You'll Do
- Provide medical oversight for all aesthetic procedures — neurotoxins, fillers, biostimulators, PRF / EZ Gel, Pico laser, microneedling, and medical-grade chemical peels
- Establish and maintain written delegation protocols for the nurse injector and aesthetician (available to IDFPR upon request)
- Establish Good Faith Exam (GFE) protocols and determine GFE delegation to the nurse injector
- Serve as supervising physician for collaborative practice agreements as required by Illinois law
- Provide on-site supervision for ablative laser procedures; phone / electronic availability for non-ablative and injectable services
- Conduct on-site visits (minimum monthly) — observe treatments, review charts, and meet with clinical staff
- Develop, approve, and maintain treatment protocols and standing orders
- Establish emergency protocols (vascular occlusion, allergic reaction, anaphylaxis, ER referral criteria)
- Ensure compliance with Illinois IDFPR regulations (including the December 2024 medspa memo), OSHA, HIPAA, and the Illinois Medical Practice Act
- Review and approve service menu, contraindication guidelines, patient selection criteria, and informed consent documents
- Approve all new services, devices, or product lines before they are offered
- Conduct chart reviews and clinical audits; review adverse events and complications
- Verify staff licensure, certifications, malpractice coverage, and training documentation
- Advise on new treatment offerings and clinical expansion opportunities
What We're Looking For
- Active Illinois MD, DO, or APRN (full practice authority) license in good standing (required)
- Board certification in dermatology, plastic surgery, emergency medicine, family medicine, or internal medicine (preferred)
- Minimum 2 years of medical aesthetics, dermatology, or plastic surgery experience — or current medspa medical director experience
- Strong working knowledge of injectables (neurotoxins, fillers, biostimulators), PRF, laser devices (including Pico), and clinical skincare
- Familiarity with Illinois IDFPR medspa regulations, the December 2024 IDFPR/IDPH memo, delegation requirements, and collaborative practice agreements
- Understanding of GFE requirements and how to establish GFE delegation protocols
- Knowledge of emergency protocols for aesthetic complications (vascular occlusion, anaphylaxis, nerve injury, infection)
- Understanding of ablative vs. non-ablative classifications and corresponding on-site supervision requirements
- Active malpractice insurance coverage (required)
- Comfortable with a part-time oversight model — responsive, reliable, and available by phone during business hours
Bonus (Nice to Have)
- Existing medical director experience at one or more Illinois medspas
- Pico laser or other laser / light-based device experience
- Experience developing medspa-specific informed consent forms and protocols from scratch
- Familiarity with Illinois medspa ownership structure and MSO models
- Willingness to occasionally perform treatments or consultations on-site (compensated separately)
- Interest in being featured as Lumi's Medical Director on website and marketing materials
- Relationships with aesthetic product representatives (Allergan, Galderma, Revance)
Compensation & Time Commitment
- Monthly retainer: $2,500–$5,000/month depending on experience and scope ($30,000–$60,000/year)
- 1099 independent contractor arrangement
- Estimated 4–8 hours/month — on-site visits, chart reviews, phone availability
- 1–2 on-site visits per month for chart review, staff meetings, and observation
- Phone / electronic availability during Lumi operating hours (9 AM–8 PM, 6 days/week)
- Protocol review as needed when new services or devices are introduced
- Additional compensation available for on-site treatments or consultations performed
